Documentation

In Week 18 we were discussing the documentation of our work, before making, during making and post-making, its importance and the ways this can be done.

Michele mentioned that during her PhD she had to make an 8 month pause and then return again and the documentation was very important to help get over this break. It reminded me of mine and that I’d learnt the importance of documentation long ago, and mine has got better the more research I have done. We had a 5 minute pause and I was able to go upstairs and grab my notes from the last couple of months of my PhD back in 1995. (I still have the data files on floppy disc, Zip disc, CD and on various hard drives too.) I have used these notes for scientific publications, conferences and lectures for several years afterwards.
