Altered Book

Last night I was reading “The Found Object in Textile Art” by Cas Holmes and the section on ‘Altered Books’ (p.80-81) caught my eye. It suggested using a found book, or cheap substitute, and using as a base or substrate for a series of collages. This seemed like a great idea to me. When I read further one of the points stated, ” look at the structure and content of the book. Why have you chosen it? Does the subject matter act as a stimulus for ideas or is the visual imagery the most important aspect, or a combination of both?

For my Time and Wallet theme, it occurred to me that my MSc thesis covered the exact same time period as the wallet and the H2 camera. Could I use this thesis (either the actual one, a photocopy or a digital version) as a substrate for a series of collages using the wallet contents and my contemporary (and other?) images? I think this idea is worth following up.
